About This Package

3 Days Central Vietnam: Danang & Hoi An

This three-day package pairs Da Nang — a coastal city with excellent flight connections, beautiful beaches, and a growing cultural scene — with a full day at Hoi An, one of Southeast Asia's most beautifully preserved historic towns. It is the most efficient way to experience Central Vietnam's two most visited destinations.

Day two is the heart of the package: the Bay Mau coconut palm wetland experience followed by a guided walk through Hoi An Ancient Town. Bay Mau is a tidal wetland 3 kilometres outside Hoi An where local fishermen still work in traditional coracles — round woven bamboo boats traditionally used on these waterways. Fishermen demonstrate their distinctive foot-rowing technique, perform a boat-spinning routine, and guide you through the narrow coconut-palm-shaded waterways. The Hoi An singing and dancing on the river is an optional performance that the boatmen often offer spontaneously.

Hoi An Ancient Town, 30 kilometres south of Da Nang, was the most important international trading port in Southeast Asia from the 15th to the 18th centuries. Japanese merchants, Chinese traders, Dutch and Portuguese seafarers all established quarters in the town. The result is an architectural layering that is unique in Vietnam — and the entire Old Town has been preserved as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999.

What Makes This Trip

Why This 3-Day Central Vietnam Package Stands Apart

Bay Mau coconut palm basket boat coracle Cam Thanh Hoi An Vietnam

Basket Boat at Bay Mau Coconut Forest

The traditional coracle — a round woven bamboo boat sealed with resin — is one of the most distinctive craft of the Hoi An fishing community. The Bay Mau coconut palm wetland provides the perfect setting: narrow water channels through dense nipa palm forest, where local fishermen demonstrate their extraordinary foot-rowing technique and the spinning manoeuvre that requires years of practice. The boatmen often break into karaoke singing mid-channel, spontaneously, which is both absurd and wonderful. Fishermen also demonstrate net casting and crab trapping in the wetland channels.

Hoi An Ancient Town — UNESCO Walking Tour

Hoi An's Old Town preserves the architecture of a 15th-century Asian trading port almost completely intact. The Japanese Covered Bridge (Lai Vien Kieu), built in 1593 by the Japanese merchant community to connect to the Chinese quarter across a small canal, is the most-photographed sight in Hoi An — a wooden bridge with a small pagoda above it, curved at both ends in the Japanese style. The guided walk also covers a traditional Fujian Chinese Assembly Hall (1757), the Tan Ky Old House (200-year-old Chinese-Japanese hybrid merchant house), and the Museum of Trade Ceramics.

My Khe Beach Da Nang coastline white sand Vietnam

Da Nang Beach — One of Asia's Most Beautiful Coastlines

My Khe Beach, stretching 30 kilometres along Da Nang's coast, was named one of the most attractive beaches in the world by Forbes magazine. The beach begins within walking distance of Da Nang city centre, with gentle waves, clear water, and a long flat shoreline that was used by the US military as a rest and recreation area during the Vietnam War — for reasons that are immediately obvious. The water is warm (27–29°C year-round), the beach is wide, and it is practical in a way that tourist-focused resort beaches often are not.

Why Dhesu

Central Vietnam Made Easy — By Malaysia's Trusted Agency Since 1988

Dhesu has been arranging Central Vietnam journeys for Malaysian travellers since 1988. The Danang–Hoi An circuit is one of our most popular short-break itineraries. Our guides know the Bay Mau boatmen who give the most authentic coracle experience, the Hoi An tailor shops that deliver on time, and the Da Nang restaurant streets that give you the real local food rather than the tourist menu versions.

MATTA & IATA Registered

Fully licensed Malaysian travel agency. Central Vietnam is one of our most booked circuits — we understand every detail from basket boats to Hoi An entry tickets.

35+ Years of Vietnam Experience

Since 1988, we have been sending Malaysian travellers to Vietnam. Our Da Nang and Hoi An guides are trusted long-term partners.

Basket Boat & Hoi An Included

The Bay Mau basket boat ride and Hoi An Ancient Town guided walk (with entry fees) are included in the package. No separate ticketing or transport arrangements needed.

Best Value in Central Vietnam

RM688 per person for a 4-star superior hotel, Hoi An day trip, basket boat, and all transfers — the most affordable way to experience Central Vietnam from Malaysia.

3 Day Danang Hoi An Tour from Malaysia

A 3-day Da Nang and Hoi An tour from Malaysia is the most accessible way to experience Central Vietnam on a short break. Da Nang is directly connected to Kuala Lumpur by multiple flights daily (approximately 2.5 hours). Hoi An, 30 kilometres south, is one of Southeast Asia's most photographed and most intact historic towns — a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999.

The basket boat experience at Bay Mau Coconut Forest (also called Cam Thanh) is a distinctively Hoi An experience that most Central Vietnam tours include — the traditional coracle fishing culture of the Thu Bon River wetlands is not replicated anywhere else in Vietnam. The combination of the coracle ride and the Hoi An walking tour makes day two one of the most varied and visually rich single days available in a Southeast Asia package tour.
